This panoramic view of the National Mall and both the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial/Reflecting pool is just one reason why this stop will be a favorite. The scenic beauty and important message of the memorial that honors the 16 million Americans who served and the over 400,000 that died in the world's most cataclysmic war are amazing.
This 7.5 acre memorial to America's longest serving President and one of the 20th Century's most important figures sits on the Tidal Basin and offers a fascinating look at America during the Great Depression and World War II. The dramatic and beautiful open-space memorial to the iconic 20th Century American civil rights leader is the second part of this stop. This stop is usually combined with the Lincoln and Vietnam Memorials.
The famous Maya Lin-designed "Wall" is the final stop on the morning tour. It's dramatic design and poignant treatment of the complex subject of America's war in Vietnam, including the 58,479 names carved on it make this stop especially interesting and moving.
